I don't have any quarrel with your observations. I believe that X said she agreed with them and I dittoed her.

I was merely stipulating why there was a reasonable social interest, modest though it may be, in his choice..........

I don't dispute the social interest, either. What I dispute is that your assertion that he has a duty to eschew ignoramusdom, that ignoramusdom is immoral. If he gets to determine his course for himself and he doesn't harm anyone else in the process, he cannot be immoral.

I'm glad to see that you are accepting his self determination. I think, though, you may be acknowledging his right to it without giving up your view that it is an immoral act.
