Should inspectors locate such caches of WMDs in Iraq, it will, in effect, catch Saddam in a lie and prove that he cannot be trusted.

Upon such a discovery, we'll either have a casus belli for executing his direct overthrow, or for exerting even more restrictive measures.

I have to disagree Hawk. The US isn't the holdup, its the rest of the planet. We don't have to catch Saddam in a lie to prove he can't be trusted, he's already been caught - numerous times.

You are right about the necessary consequences if he gets caught, yet again - remove him from power. I don't see how any further restrictions could be implemented without being open to the same failures as the past attempts. Either the restrictions will collapse again eventually, or they will succeed in achieving proof beyond reasonable doubt that Iraq is disarmed. Either way, Saddam will then be free to once again seek WMD when the inspectors are gone. The only way to be (reasonably) sure Iraq will be disarmed and remain disarmed is to bury Saddam Hussein.
