Asserting that political differences represent a pathology is a long-standing tradition of the LEFT, not the right. Historically, the right has tended to see this model for human behavior as being hopelessly materialist, an example of the dangerous arrogance of humanism. Twenty years ago, any conservative intellectual worth his salt had read Solzhenitsyn's _Gulag Archipelago_, where the use of the therapeutic model was used to "diagnose" countless dissenters, just as the good doctor did in that post. Mao used similar methods, and his successors have as well, most recently in justifying their brutal treatment of the Falun Gong.
