There is a law enforcement-defined distinction between a "spree killer" and a "serial killer."

As I recall, a spree killer is in a constant state of physical and emotional arousal, with no psychological cooling down period between acts (even if there is an intervening geographic or temporal space/lull separating them). He's constantly "on," acts impulsively, and there is often no connection racially or economically between the killer's demographic and his/her victims.

A serial killer, on the other hand, hunts his victims painstakingly, and typically does so within his/her geographic, racial and/or economic group. Also, there is often a "relaxation" period between killings.

What do we have here? More importantly: what does it tell us about the individual and how/where he will strike next?
