You've gone soooo PC, probably been out of the country too long -lol-

I'm a Catholic myself, and always enjoyed Nov 5th like anyone else -g- It's a bit like the Japanese kids cheering the Hollywood USA fighters on in WW2 films.

I can easily imagine the Londoners celebrating Nov 5th 1605 and failure of the gunpowder plot. It was return to normal civilization after the specter of incredible horror looming; of civil and religious war.
