People will remain interested, but is it wise to give killers what they want, even if the public is interested? I've always wondered that about thrill killers. It's too bad you can't study what would happen if there was a news blackout on a killer like this. If, for example, people were warned by flyer, by their police, but the networks didn't cover it, and the newspapers didn't cover it, and no attention was paid. Would the person get desperate and escalate? That would improve their chances of being caught, I think. Would they quit, if no one paid attention?
Because quite frankly the news doesn't help you a bit with this. You don't know where this person will be. Most people can't stay in their homes 24/7 until he or she is caught. What use if the news, but to terrify the citizenry, and give the killer his or her jollys. |
