Let's see, I use 3 dictionaries usually, especially if I am researching a derivation. Sometimes I look in more, but of course I find that entertaining. I think I would rely on 2 in an emergency. When I meet a friend for lunch, why would I care what her story is? I only research things I need to rely on. If I'm not relying on something, I only care if it is interesting and entertaining, if it is my free time. So veracity is unimportant. Scientific studies are relied upon, stories by friends are not, at least not by me. If a friend wanted something, then I would indeed research their story, unless what they wanted was unimportant to me, and I didn't care if the story was false.
