I have this gut feeling there is a lot more going on than meets the
eye. It centers around the psychological and physical impact our
offensive scheme is having on opposing defenses.

1. You have to admit that it is rare that a defensive coordinator has
to prepare for an attack such as the running game of VT. Right there
you have the opposition spending a lot of effort to formulate a game
plan. When you play VT its not business as usual.
2.Fans are upset that FB says every week we are working on the
passing game and expect to throw the ball a lot more. If I were FB
and expected to pass once each half that is exactly the public
comment I would be saying. It makes the opposition think they must
prepare for the pass also,,, taking away from the effort in preparing
the rushing defenses.
3.With the duo of Suggs Jones 1+1 equals more than 2. Its not like
rotating in qb's tight ends or receivers. The fatigue factor almost
necessitates that you keep pounding in there not giving ostensibly
the defensive linemen the breather they might have taken on a drop
back pass play. Simply put a defensive lineman would not be as
obvious giving a 60% effort on a pass rushing play as he would on a
running play where the fullback a pulling guard and Lee Suggs were
all heading in his direction.
4.I cannot imagine the mental toughness an offense generates when
they know they are going out and running 5 or 6 times for every
passing attempt.
5.Last. Injuries. You would think that a running team where the O
linemen are firing off the line of scrimmage would be more prone to
injuries, opposed to pass defense teams where the offensive linemen
are backing up::: but without any statistics to go on it seems that
we have had the opposite happen...i.e. that is a decent year in our
injury ratio with other teams. Simply put, again, it seemed to me
last night that a lot more Eagles got helped off the field than
Hokies.
