Appeasers - Wednesday, October 09, 2002 9:32 AM

The argument of the appeasement crowd in the Democratic Party that we should negotiate new inspections and disarmament agreements with Saddam Hussein is so laughable that one wonders how anyone could think it, let alone make it. This is the same crowd that opposed military action against Iraq in 1990 and argued that sanctions would have caused Saddam to withdraw his armies and relinquish his conquest of Kuwait. Neither the success of the four-day-war in the Gulf, which ended Saddam’s aggression, nor the 11-year failure of the postwar sanctions, sporadic bombings and futile UN resolutions (all designed to get Saddam to adhere to the agreements he made to end the war) seem to have taught the appeasers anything. But then appeasement is a disposition not a reading of the facts.
