The Hate America War Protestors - Tuesday, October 08, 2002
The antiwar crowd is revving up for a massive demonstration in Washington on October 26. There are two historic dimensions to this movement which I haven't seen noted anywhere yet. The first is that this anti-war movement is far larger and more significant than the anti-Vietnam movement of the Sixties. The Sixties anti-war protest as I have noted elsewhere was largely an anti-draft protest. There was no anti-war movement to speak of before the introduction of the draft. The day Nixon announced that he was ending the draft, the movement began to dwindle and disappear. There is no draft today, and yet tens if not hundreds of thousands of people are involved in a movement whose real intention is to cripple America's ability to defend itself in the face of a ferocious enemy.

The second dimension of the current demonstrations is that they are not inspired by any particular admiration for the enemy as they were during the Cold War. In those days we had a Communist and pro-Communist fifth column in this country who thought that socialism was the cat's meow. Before committing treason in Vietnam, Jane Fonda told a crowd at the University of Michigan that if they understood what Communism was, Americans would go down on their knees and pray for Communism to come to this country. Not even Barbra Streisand thinks that Saddam Hussein's Iraq is a mecca of the socialist future. Yet Streisand and tens of thousands of political imbeciles like her are convinced that America is so evil that Saddam's evil pales in comparison. Or they hate America more than they love justice. What else can one conclude from their behavior?

I have long identified the "progressive" movement to which the Sixties gave birth as the Hate America Left, and everything that it has said and done since 9/11 confirms this description.
