I saw a film last night that updates the experience somewhat. . . "Changing Lanes". There were more than a few lines in the movie that were Wall Street classics. They essentially were saying that the way to maintain the high end lifestyle, REQUIRED that they lie, cheat and steal as part of regular everyday life. The big whale says, "I sleep well because at the end of the day, I know I have done more good than harm." Those who were harmed would likely disagree.
I loved the part where this wet behind the ears fledgling attorney is applying for a position and begins spouting out all these legal ideals he learned in college. . . and his interviewer (main character) begins laughing out loud and says, "you are hired. . .because I want to hear what you say about the law after working here for 5 years, 1 year, 6 months, 1 month. . a week. . a day. . an hour. . .10 minutes." (or thereabouts) . .. implying that the amount of "law" being practiced was subordinate to the amount of legal deception, fraud and theft.
Oh yes, the whales. . . I don't know how many of them there are, but I do understand their individual and collective powers. . . . apparently giving definition to the phrase, "above the law."
