4. I've read the commentary/controversy on the quote from the chair of the awarding committing. He does seem to have stepped over a few protocol lines.

Uh... I would venture to guess that more than a few were crossed.. He has shown the true face of what many have assumed was a politicized Nobel prize program. And he remains unapologetic about letting his personal feelings be represented as those of the Nobel comittee.

And this cheapens the entire philanthropic venture to that of being nothing more than a "sock puppet" for European elitists.

But I assume that's a reflection, not only of the heat of his own views, but the heat of much public opinion in Europe.

I wonder if you have polled the French public recently, in light of the attack upon their oil tanker??

Which is obviously fairly easy to agree with since the Europeans are bearing LITTLE cost for the containment of Saddam over the past 12 years... The US has been subsidizing their foreign policy decisions at the UN.

And on top of that, neither have they been able to resolve the issue of Saddam.. They permit his brutal rule to continue, his implicit threats to the region related to his desire to forcible unify the Arab world under his rule..

And they, like you, offer no other solutions that don't involve obligating the US to spend its treasure and blood for THEIR timid foreign policy goals.

Same thing that happened in Bosnia, where European leaders presented a pitiful attempt at resolving the conflict there...

It's fine for the Europeans to complain about US policies, so long as they offer EFFECTIVE policy alternatives of their own.
