I wouldn't think that you needed them but I'm not really sure. Since it is installed on your machine you might still be vulnerable to a hacker breaking in and using a security flaw in IE to control your machine. IMO you should always have a backup browser in case something goes wrong with the one you prefer so why not have it up to date. If I were you I would.
