TA --- " What you Need to get Started" #1:

This is a good summary by Bob G. posted recently.

techstocks.com

Couple things that I want to add from my opinion:

Bob G. said:
Normally I would start with cheap software like Wall Street Analyst by Omega and get a cheap data service like Quotes Plus, or go for a service that combines data with a good starter TA software like TC2000 (which I am currently learning about).

However, your choice for a premium product like Metastock is a good choice because you will be staying with this product even thoguh you will end up with a more sophisticated approach with your use of TA. ;) Still, you need a data source, and I think you will find Quotes Plus cheaper than the Reuters service and also have more to offer with their database of 10,000+ stocks they place on your local hard drive and their scanning capability. This will open the door of TA scanning for stocks to you. Still, the Trend Datalink from Reuters will do the job for you.

1) I totally agree if cost to start TA is an important factor, then TC2000 would be a good pick. Bev Smith has great experience in transitioning between tc2000 to the more advanced software packages (she tried both WOW and MSWIN). Note: WOW == Windows on Wallstreet (different from Wallstreet Analyst) and MSWIN == Metastock. these packages roughly run <$300.

2) You can also try online charting. The data intergrity is somewhat in question, but they do their job (for free). Although not as powerful as software packages, they do offer the user a good "jump start" in seeing what each indicator looks like and what it does.

3) Take advantage of the WOW or MSWIN trial periods. Use both for 30 days and compare and contrast. The return one.. Just pay shipping and handling.

I guess the best site I've seen so far for online charting is:

dailystocks.com

Any questions or suggestions, please email me or post here.
I hope the TA gurus, will add input if necessary. I do wish to see group input as the lessons continue.
