Chomsky are out of bounds. I think we have exhausted the subject. Agreed. I was trying to recall who started this one. Sometimes it's wise for the one who kicks off these things to call a halt. Would help the thread if FL was not the only one who said enuf. On Arafat, I'm not yet at the point of agreeing with you that Bush's policy worked. The Israeli-Palestinian situation could just as easily cycle downwards again. Your view appears to be that Arafat is the only problem; mine is that Sharon's govt is as culpable. I just don't yet see the internal politics of the region as pushing in the right direction, meaning a two state solution. I have two fears. On the Palestinian side, that the apparent weakening of Arafat leads to a power play by Hamas and other Islamist groups. The Palestinians will then have gone from a secular, if nasty govt, to an Islamist one. I prefer the former. On the Israeli side, that the political forces have tipped to the point that a two state solution is no longer viable. That is, that the politics have moved so far in the direction of continuing the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza for the long term, that not only is no serious peace possible. But the zealots will be in control of both groups. I'm not certain just why the issue of a Right Wing administration that goes too far comes up in your mind. I have a hard enough time seeing how far is far enough with this crew. Too far seems to be the order of the day. Been watching Bloomberg of late. The mayor, that is. If I were to vote for a Republican in the near term, he might get it, if he ran in an election which permitted me to vote. I thought he handled the Columbus Day Parade bit very well. And, the pc crowd turned out to be some Wall Street money managers. One Bronx parade organizer said he would have to keep the Soprano actors out because he kept getting calls from the Wall Street types that they would not give money to the group and/or parade unless he made certain the Sopranos did not march. Was a short squib in the Times. Politics is ever fascinating.
