It's not uncommon for some businesses to have service contracts for heating and air conditioning maintenance or refrigeration. These kinds of jobs would get you on the roofs of buildings where you could really get a good look at the surroundings. It's possible the killer is a service person and his company services all Michael's in the region. I would think the police have checked this by now.
