I want to hear that my president and my Congress are taking the real steps needed in this country — starting with sane gun control and sane economic policy — to stop this slide into over here becoming like over there.
Friedman is losing it, IMO. Every day at the daily press conference, Ari Fleischer talks about the President's reaction to the sniper. It would be incredibly inappropriate for the President to talk to the American people about it personally, although I wouldn't be surprised if he answered a question about it after a speech.
A .223 caliber rifle is a good weapon for defense, shooting varmints, and at a range less than 200 yards, shooting deer.
This may not seem like good things if you live in suburban Montgomery County, or a city, but the vast majority of the country isn't suburb or city. Of course, the majority of the population does live in a suburb or a city, so they may be able to impose their will on the others, but I think it's a bad idea to take rifles away from hunters and people who live on farms.
At any rate, I live in VA, which favors the responsible use of guns, including handguns for defense, and rifles and shotguns for hunting. |
