No, I don't have a sense that there's a Michael's connection. Of course, I have no real basis for an opinion either way.

There's a Michael's on Route 1 in Alexandria immediately outside the beltway. If Michael's were a focal point, I would think that particular store might have been struck.

Rt. 1 is a major highway, albeit full of traffic lights, north and south. Right next to Route 1 and parallel to it is the GW Parkway, which is a limited access road. So between those highways and the beltway, I'd think that spot would fit his presumed criteria. He could also get lost in the narrow, congested streets of either Alexandria or he could scoot across the Wilson Bridge on the beltway and get lost in DC. The store itself is set way back from the road behind a huge parking lot and stands alone.

Seems to me that, if he didn't strike that Michael's, a case could be made that Michael's isn't a target.
