What is sane gun control?

Interesting point. Have been talking to ex pat USA guys domiciled now here in the UK. One of the positives they like about this country is the strong gun law legislation. I'm an ex gun owner myself, unhappy with the new laws that have devastated the remaining gun clubs and industry here. I understand their point though. It was odd living in the USA where you would pick up the local newspaper and see some simple domestic dispute result in the use of firearms and deaths.

Trouble is there is no "middle ground" in gun law legislation. For example, in the USA I would recommend to NRA members that a dialog should be kept open with gun control groups. A big reduction in gun deaths through various mechanisms would be good for everyone. There are plenty of opportunities to do this. It does require things like gun registration, and gun licenses though. Nope no way.

Talking to gun control groups is the same. Never mind that the vast majority of gun owners are as safe to other human beings as anyone....take their toys away. It's appalling. It should be remembered how many people die in auto accidents, but I don't see automobiles being banned.

Sane gun control is about developing a middle ground where positive action results. You have got to have a license and a registration to own a car, why not a gun?? It's a no brainer in my view. Mind you we had all those controls here, and they still effectively banned all legal gun ownership after the Dunblane incident.
