OT-kumar...if your friend was recently unemployed, and she had medical coverage with her company, regardless of who was paying the premiums, she would have qualified for COBRA for 18 months. She would pay the premiums, but she would have had coverage as she did when she was working. Why didn't she do that?

She could have paid the premiums from her unemployment check.

Many people would rather not pay the premiums, and would rather party and otherwise use the money for other non essentials....and do. Then they expect others to pick up the pieces if they become ill.

Waiting to hear the other side of the story.
