Dear Gordon: It was the most popular weapon in Nam cause thats what they gave us. Our weapon of choice though was a sawed off 12 gauge shotgun loaded with Double Ought Buck. (gg). Dont need any range as anyone even 50 yards from you you couldnt see anyhow. haha. As to the effective range, laying prone or with something to brace the weapon against 500 yards with a scope was a PIECE OF CAKE. I believe most if not all of these shootings occurred in the morning, usually not much breeze that time of day. Plus, this shooter is picking his targets, they are stationery, not moving at all (except the mower deal) and if weather is a consideration he certainly would be smart enough to be positioned for the least effect. This is a tough situation and I suspect only CHANCE will catch him. JDN
