I disagree that it would be fruitless to compare Sharon and Arafat's records. The only problem would be the passions that are generated.

The Israelis have already found that Sharon was indirectly responsible for Sabra and Shatila. Got anything else on Sharon?

The terror that Arafat is responsible for could fill volumes. I don't know where to begin.

You ever take cruises? Good thing you weren't on the Achille Lauro when Arafat personally gave the order to dump the wheel-chair bound oldster into the sea.

Good thing you weren't an Israeli Olympian in '72.

I realize that the Arafat/Sharon topic is one that engenders high passions. But there is no reason to evade it or dismiss it, especially after setting it off by characterizing those who see Arafat as a terrorist as users of loose terms.

Unless, of course, you know you've got the short end of the argument and would rather not see its weaknesses exposed.

I'm beginning to think that perhaps you are somewhat of an Arafat sympathizer--which is fine, this is America and all that--given your stance over the weekend condemning the journalist who implied that some Nobel Peace Prize winners are savages.

The Palesinians desperately need rational leadership. Arafat, in my opinion, has given them nothing but pain and suffering. He is the worst thing that has happened to them in their entire history.

There is a change of thinking taking place in Palestine, I think, as a result of which Arafat will be history. The Hamas/Fatah fighrt in Gaza is symptomatic of the change.
