(OT) There's a difference between the populous being armed, and a bunch of gang banger crims being armed. As I pointed out, Washington DC has one of the highest murder rates in the world, yet has extremely oppressive gun laws. Banning guns does not ban gun deaths. The citizens of Washington DC and Baltimore are not heavily armed, the criminals are. Rural gun ownership in VA, MD is likely higher(if for no other reason, than as you pointed out, many hunt) and per capita murder there is less. I'm not suggesting the serial killer(s) picked DC area, just saying if you were to pick, that's would be as good a place as any because you're not likely to run into any armed locals. You say it's ludicrous to suggest having guns doesn't protect me from some nutcase, and I agree. If someone wants to shoot me, they can, but, they're taking a much greater chance in doing it where i'm at than in Baltimore and DC, because there are a lot more people here that would possibly be shooting back at them.(and they better make that first shot count because after they lose the element of surprise i'm going to be upset with them) In DC, where guns are for all practical purpose banned, the crims know they have a scared bunch of victims. Where i'm at, you would have to think twice before robbing someone, breaking and entering, etc. as you're probably going to get shot. |
