Thanks for writing to us. If the data doesn't look right, it's often a good idea to check the data. In your example of the AMAT Oct 20-call, these options trade on five different exchanges -- are you sure you're getting the volume from all the exchanges?

Secondly, it's possible that the open interest may be out of sync with the volume. For example, if an order was erroneously executed as an opening transaction when in fact it was closing, then the reduction in open interest might show up a day or two later when the error is rectified. Beyond these two explanations I'm not sure what else to suggest. If you have more questions please write or give us a call.
