"I just bought a Dell PC which came with a discounted Lexmark PrinTrio (copier, scanner, printer) for only $99 extra. I currently own an HP 3-in-1 which I plan to get rid of when I get the new system. How is HP going to compete with deals like this? "

Well, now those certainly are the issues aren't they? First, Dell must go into the printer business. They can't be selling hp printers if hp is competition can they?....Of course since they have been selling hp for 10 years, one might conclude that hp is now more competition to them than before.

Carly's comment has to do with this: How much money does Dell LOSE by selling you a printer for less than it costs to warehouse and deliver? How much are the supplies, does dell get the supplies, are they driving the costs less, and of course,

WHY WOULD YOU GET RID OF A GOOD HP JUST TO BUY A NEW ONE, people don't do this, unless your old printer has worn out,

but, the printer market is not old printers that wear out, it is the supplies, how much, what guarentee of price stability, if you can buy them from the store, how does dell benefit.

And let me hasten to add that it is the ease of use of the printer, not the cost (within reason) that is the leading selection criteria.

And in this area, I haven't check lately but the ease of use of HP printers is MISERABLE, I have a 6:1 hp something that will not only copy but will type posts for you for bulletin boards! but it comes with this friggin cable that is a hp bidirectional thingy and ya know what, who cares, it is too hard to hook up.....

The good news is that hp could get a big kick in market share if they spent some time simplifying stuff, cost would be insignificant in this context.

Dell's POWER has been in making things simple, If that is what michael is talking about, then Carly (and Duke) better friggen worry.

::))

THE QUESTIONS ARE EASY, ITS THE ANSWERS THAT ARE DIFFICULT. Carly is dismissing this, I would think she might have more info than me, and she is not known for bragadosioness.

So maybe hp has concluded that dell does not have enough control of manufacturing to be a significant threat. That was the point of my post.
