Well, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a whole other can of worms. Both the Israelis and Palestinians are very brutal to each other and I don't know how either side can justify the horrors they visit on each other.

However, the discussion we were having here had to do with Islam and how pure Islamic states tend to be repressive and backward. Governments that manage to separate religion from state tend to be the ones that keep people the happiest. They also tend to be democratic. Israel is the one democratic exception to this rule. My belief is that if Israel had allowed Palestinians to be part of their government, then all of the current mess might have been avoided. Anyway, I'll say again, the Israel/Palestinian situation doesn't justify the extremist actions of fundamentalist Islamic groups all over the globe.
