I think there's a natural tendency for ex-military to want to think this guy isn't one of them. After all, most of them (us) adhered to a code of conduct and a system of beliefs which are completely antithetical to this sort of thing. But on the other hand, Tim McVeigh and Lee Harvey Oswald certainly prove it's possible.

As to the "attack before dawn" theory, I don't think it's ridiculous, but there are plenty of reasons not to. He may have a wife at home, he may not have his cover of a delivery or repair job that early... or he may just not want to get up that early after drinking a sixpack watching late night TV.

BTW I was "chairborne" in the Army NG.
