Just wanted to show you what I was drinking last night!
The way it happened was that the father of a young German lady bought at least a case of each of these the year she was born, 1981, to drink I guess when she turned 21, and he sent a bottle of each to her uncle who is married to an old friend of ours. (She was there, too, and I toasted her birthday as a vintage year.)Every little sip was worth about $2.00 as I figure it. I wonder what her father paid 21 years ago?
Now, it was good, and it sure overshadowed the Ravenswood that I had brought along (your recommendation).
But you know what? I have had a $12 bottle of wine that I think was every bit as good as those. The flavor was not really all that complex.
But for snob value that goes down in my books with 1864 Madeira (one little glass) and a perhaps 1955 Clos Vougeot (one bottle shared four ways). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
