Strat, It is too silly to be believed. The broker is guilty of insider trading if he has inside info and divulges it to somebody who takes advantage of the situation. Whether or not he is the broker of record makes no difference. Also, the buyer can get charged for buying on the rumor if it turns out to be true.

I can think of two reasons why a broker would do this. 1. The guy is a personal friend. In that case, I am sure he is thrilled the fella mentioned the fact to the 100,000 or so folks who tune in to SI every now and then, both registered and lurkers. -g-
2. The guy is an enemy and the broker wants to stiff him.

Actually, there is a number three. The broker or the note writer are just flapping their lips. -g-
