According to the corporate website, Michael's Stores had 628 locations in 2000 and was growing rapidly.

They seem to be located in the kinds of places the sniper would choose anyway - strip malls with exposed parking lots. Most of the hits have not been near a Michael's. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
