WSJ version of Unicom 4 million CDMA subscribers news :

China United Telecom CDMA Growth Quickens, Users Total 4M

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

BEIJING -- China United Telecommunications Corp., the smaller of China's
two state-owned mobile operators, had more than 4 million subscribers to
its national code division multiple access, or CDMA, network as of
Monday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

That means China United signed up about 1 million users in the three weeks
since it last reported subscriber figures. It had 3 million CDMA users as of
Sept. 25.

China United Telecom, the parent of Hong Kong-listed China Unicom Ltd.
(CHU), also said it had 57 million users on its mobile network that uses the
global system for mobile, or GSM, telecom standard.

Xinhua quoted a China United spokesman saying that the numbers
demonstrated that the company is still adding new GSM subscribers even
as it pursues the high-end market with its more-expensive CDMA service.
