Well,Your Generalizations Never Cease.

Houses built on rock sides in rugged coastal areas and the Avalon certainly have no basements.Anywhere else, the houses are the same as you would find in the Maritimes or the US East Coast.

The reason the Island gets it's name " The Rock ", is due to the prevalence of barren rock on the Far East Coast section of the Province called the Avalon Peninsula as well as many coastal areas.The Avalon has the Capital( St. Johns ) and thus CBC can only show that and the surrounding area for their 20 sec. video bites.Thus eveyone thinks it is all rock there.<GGG>Too funny.

The rest of the island is like most of what you would see anywhere else in the Maritimes, except on the West Coast where there is a beautiful extensive mountain range some twenty times older than the Rockies that extends the length of the Island from North to South,about 500 miles.

I traveled the Island extensively building communications systems many years ago from my home in Gander.What a very beautiful place with an even more beautiful people.

What happened there on 911 showed the world how a very caring people can come to the aid of their brothers in times of need, no matter where they were from.

Something Canada can be truly proud of.
