If the white van/truck is a decoy, then who owns the decoy? If the killers own the van, then it's no decoy as it would lead right back to them. If they've stolen it, then no need to use it as a decoy because it doesn't trace back to them. Alternatively, if it's stolen, it means these guys are also car thieves, so why not just steal a different car each time to avoid being caught while still in an already fingered white van?
As I wrote previously, it could be that the white van is a partial decoy. In other words, it's part of a fleet of similar vans that all sit in some big lot somewhere. They drive to the lot, park the van, get in their own car and drive away. So, one day their white van is missing a rear tail light, the next day they decide to take the one that just happens to have a dent in the rear fender, etc.
