Has anybody here looked into Allied Domecq? I ask because I don't find the information and ratios I usually like to see. The ADRs trade now. biz.yahoo.com
Wasn't this one company that Mr. Buffett was rumored to be interested in?
In looking at AED, I notice they own Winchells (and Togos)and Baskin-Robbins as well as other good brand names. So to me, it's likely to be a company that will be around a few more decades (maybe).
In any case, looking at Winchells led me to check, for fun, on Krispy Kreme, because this was a company that got a big laugh from me when it was mentioned and proposed here by the fellow from KC. To my surprise, KKD has held up very well in the past few months. Which trounces the performance of the vast, vast majority of my stocks during this time.

Ah these cult stocks and cult businesses. Yet... I just wonder that if the stock can hold up this well in a bear market, it certainly seems possible that it might be pulled and pushed even higher in a bullish environment. Certainly lots of not-so-positive stuff: high p/e, alleged top managers who might have dealt themselves franchises, receivable accounting, etc. OTOH, the relatively few stores (they are mini factories, imo) suggest growth is still ahead. It's hard for me to see it as a Buffett stock though. |
