Jeff, Justa, Ajtj: FYI:

Comment: I failed to predict a day like today. Why? Because, looking at my daily charts of NDX/COMP from 1/1/2000 till 10/13/02 (almost 3 years), there has never been a day like today among those 700 trading days. Today was truly unique (in a statistical sense) in these ways:

(1) We had 4 straight days of outsize gains on COMP/NDX without a retest of any kind - never happened previously after a new all-time (intra or close) low.

(2) We gapped significantly on NDX above upper BB from a level below upper BB - never happened previously with this size of gap or with the resulting higher close and white candle.

In sum, it was a type of day that supposedly has a very very low probability of happening, yet it more likely indicates that the market it becoming ever more volatile, controlled by institutional (program) trading, and subject to strong "herd-like" moves which defy conventional T/A. Options expiration periods and options positions may be becoming a very major influence on this market. All in all, fascinating market but more difficult to navigate.
