Tell me, do you fail to see how the strong military response, with all the collateral damage incidents (real, imagined or totally fabricated), feeds the existing resentment to the US in many places? And how this resentment makes attacks more likely.

I guess to people who divide the world into good guys and bad guys, military action or doing nothing appear might appear to be the range of available options.
