mish -- i was thinking the same thing. i frankly don't know. it has somewhat helped their duration problem but they are now likely sitting on large capital losses on the treasuries they bought. of course, we only care about the P&L, not the balance sheet, so it doesn't matter <g> FNM to me is looking like a car skidding on ice; overcorrect one way, then the other way, all the while making it worse. i'm just waiting for the careen off the road, over the cliff and exploding in a big ball of fire. maybe they should get Tounces the Cat to be CEO for the upcoming fun...
