OT - to Tom, The conception that Quran teaches violence occurs when you start reading the lines and do not consider the historical significance. Remember in the early days of Islam the newly converts were openly tortured and murdered but the muslims were not allowed to retaliate back. Later on these verses came and at that point the muslims were allowed to defend themselves. I must insist that the religion promotes peaceful co-existence, extremism comes when you start reading these verses out of context of history, and that is the problem that we have today.
