soup,

I'd like to take a survey here about what's appropriate conversation on this thread. I'm directing this at you since you made the comment about e-mail. First let me say I sincerely respect and appreciate the contribution you've made to this thread since its inception in both tone and content. This is in no way a flame.
The other night, before earnings, I came in at 3 am and decided to log on a see if there was any news regarding Apple. I found 8 new posts which turned out to be a dialog between Bill Urlich and Patrice Gigahertz regarding how to correct a problem she was having with her Mac. Being tired and grumpy and concerned about earnings, I blew off a testy post, asking if anyone was interested in talking about the company. The next day I received a very civil reply from Bill. He made the point that he usually made contributions to company discussions, but in this case he was helping a fellow Apple user. He suggested that, since this was an Apple thread, various types of info relating to Apple computers might be useful to many that are lurking and posting here. After considering his position, I ended up agreeing with him. Actually it made me stop and wonder when I had developed such a tight spincter. My apologies to Bill.
Yesterday I decided to try and help Linda save a $1000 on the purchase of a PowerBook. I know I could have taken it to e-mail but that's not always convenient or even possible. What's more, I thought that there may be others here that would be interested in knowing where they could buy inexpensive Apple hardware. I did it in the spirit of community. And to be honest, the best threads that I have experienced are like a community of different points of view and various types in information, that in some way relate to the topic. The one thing they had in common was that people addressed each other respectfully.
Technically, the Topic is "Apple Computer". The only request at the launch is that we not make BetaMax comparisons. I never have.

SO WHAT'S THE CONSENSUS OUT THERE? Is helping off the menu here?

I'll respect any mandate.

Scott
