As for a 'wider war', I have seen no sign that the US would get mixed up in the Israeli/Hizbullah/Syrian war, why should it?

I can see a scenario where Arafat and the Palestinians needs to be controlled by the Israelis after the conflict with Iraq starts, using up subtantial Israeli resources that might otherwise go to fighting Hizbollah in Lebanon. If Syria participates in the fight with Hizbollah, Israel might very well be stretched thinly. If things go badly for it, US help might be necessary. Ergo, wider, more anarchic conflict.

That is the one scenario that worries me.

Give me good reasons why it can't happen, I need to sleep well.
