<< I shot expert with that one, but do not know how.>>

In "adult" years I've fired 5 examples of the M-1 Garand - one a cheap import knock-off - and all were accurate - 2 of them very accurate one of those exceptionally accurate - & none were a "heavy barrel" or "accurised" versions. Most shot better than most average off-shelf versions of the A3-03 in 06 but all fell (at the very least) a bit short of a GOOD Model 70 Winchester or 700 Remington in same caliber.

From what examples I've played with, the US military has enjoyed long arms that are mostly rather easy to be trained to shoot accurately - for their day - dating back through the 30-40 Craig. Some might even argue the same holds true above baseline version of the trap-door Springfield - for the 1st couple of shots. Problems always occur when people attempt to compare apples to oranges - newer to older or ....

I fired my 1st M-1 Garand at age 14 on a 250 yd range at a military school and "qualified" with 6 of 10 in the "X" after but 20 practice rounds. On a range the weight should be considered an asset. I've even seen people using them afield (choked back to the legal 3 rounds) and doing very well on deer hog & elk - despite the great weight.

btw, now that we have seen some claim the vehicle firing the .223 may have been the AK-74 should we consider dismissing claims of those here who would disparage members of the US the Armed Forces?
