OT:Water Water Everywhere - And Not A Drop to Drink.
>>The U.S. currently spends OVER $400 Billion/year on Defense but only a very small fraction of that on cleaning up contaminated waterways...<<
The figures are astounding when you consider the number of people directly affected by these conditions.
>>Have you heard the Bush Administration talk much about preserving our environment for future generations...?<<
I’ve heard only the opposite, actually. Here is a link to quite few issues that certainly defines a trend :

>>The lobbyists have been too effective...we need to do MUCH MORE to preserve and clean up our environment<<
Well, whether it is fact or not,I don’t hear much public debate or outcry on any environmental issues these days. Not patriotic to complain I hear.<GG>
Kyoto has been shot dead with little more than a wimper.” We will do our own thing “ was the excuse, yet not a word since.Just more IRAQ IRAQ IRAQ IRAQ IRAQ.
>>The amazing thing is that the U.S. is one of the best countries in this area...many developing countries have huge problems with pollution...We all live in one world though and I wish The U.S. would become a better rold model.<<
Indeed. The US is better than developing countries, but that is a poor yardstick by which to measure. Europe is not much better, but appear to placing more emphasis on the environment lately. New web site :

But I think one of the big concerns in the US today should be the Mississippi, as I noted in my post.It drains a full 40+ percent of US rivers and streams into the Gulf Of Mexico. That dead zone is getting larger every year, and in flood years, goes off the scale. This will catch up on the fishery sooner or later, and people will be wondering why so little was done when it was well documented what is happening.Other issues on the Mississippi include dam and water level concerns that appear to have been nixed by GWB.
If the Us should be launching a pre-emtive strike on anything,it should be the Mississippi pollution boondoggle. One billion a year is a pittance considering the magnitude of the problem. It is suggested this amount will only see a noticeable effect by the year 2015, and if the latest news I posted is any measure, that will have been highly optimistic.
Very good site here for the DEAD ZONE :
