Scott, many of us do not have time to wade through dozens of postings that really are not that germain to AAPL as an investment. As a founding SI member, I have found that my time on threads has increased mostly due to chatter. And chatter only increases as a result of more users accessing the thread. I feel we owe it to ourselves to keep chatter to a minimum. There are other more appropriate avenues for individual communications with fellow posters. You can and should use e-mail to offer specific advice or commentary about an issue that really does not concern other AAPL investors. Just because it is 10% germain doesn't mean everyone needs read it. And folks, those of you without e-mail addresses shouldn't expect to receive help or advice if you bring up a personal issue or problem. (I have to wonder if those without e-mail addresses are the ones who are most likely to send flames or make abusive comments without fear of "retaliation") Besides, individual problems with Apple hardware and software are best addressed via e-mail or on another forum. There are many newsgroups and sites to do this on.
I believe SI offers a unique window on the world of technology investing. The commentary is as a rule, more sophisticated and germain than typical postings on other stock forums which contain mostly cheerleaders, badmouthers or uninformed investors. It is my hope that SI will continue to be a valuable source of information and analysis by fellow professionals who have insights and expertise to share in technologies they know something about.
As far as putting "off-topic" at the front of postings: most of you have had very important contributions to this thread in the past, so it is difficult to avoid the temptation to read every single post. My apologies for the length of my own postingkx ;Zcvkhj WEL FJ FSLka laS---oops, I fell off my soapbox! This is not an attack on anyone's postings, just a plea for some restraint.
Drowning in ones and zeros,
