There's still a lot of life in the Senior Silverback!

Microsoft shares (MSFT: news, chart, profile) dominated the evening's most-actives list, pushing ahead more than 3 percent. The software titan reported a profit of $2.73 billion, or 50 cents a share, compared with $1.28 billion, or 23 cents, a year ago. Revenue came in at $7.75 billion, up 26 percent from last year. Analysts were looking for earnings of 43 cents a share and revenue of $7.12 billion.

It's touched off a sector rally.
