We got embroiled/intertwined with Saddam in the 80s because we wanted Iran put down. In other words, we were stirring things up in the Middle East in order to keep things off balance. The first sentence is true the 2nd is not. We were trying rather to keep things in balance. Also we were not that intertwined with Saddam. Tim
