“the main conclusion i drew from your post was that the usa should make a fresh start by electing congressmen who see both sides of the question/problem and who run on a fair and balanced platform toward palestine and israel and who don't need money. is that a mission impossible task? i would say if not impossible it certainly borders on the hard to figure out how to do.”

You asked what could America do? And I think you have grasped the problem...

Now there’s a novel idea... an honest government, and your skepticism is duly noted and well founded and therefore leads to one likely answer/conclusion. But exactly how do you get the Military to stage a coup though? Because nothing else would work for the US as far as I can see.

What currently exists would seem to be the natural progression of a good but corrupted system that has run its course and is now out of control. It will struggle on for a while with the US becoming more and more an international pariah until someone (probably the Chinese (read your Sun Tzu Ch.VI) and Russians acting together) has had enough... if nothing changes. You can’t fight terrorism with carpet-bombing without creating more terrorists with each strike than you knock out; the Israelis are finding that out... and you haven’t heard the last of Afghanistan, or maybe you have... It’s a media thing. Do you suppose for a minute that Unocal will have any better luck with their pipeline in Afghanistan than they have with the one in Colombia? And the first SAM missile that takes out a jetliner on takeoff in the US brings the whole place, stock market, commerce, just in time inventory... everything to a shuddering halt the same day. That is what the terrorists and wanabee’s all over the world learned on the 11th of September. And the guys who let it happen, for whatever their reasons, are lying awake at night with that realization. Talk about the law of unintended consequences.

When we had the problems with the IRA in London with their truck bombs we didn’t go to the source of their sympathizers and financing and nuke or carpet bomb Boston MA we negotiated, the US should do the same. Israel too, with their neighbors. But as has been noted the current ME situation has little to do with solving terrorism and everything to do with oil, power and Israel’s expansionist policies.

Chinton is right; alternately sort out Palestine and win a few friends for a change and the other problems will go away.

Difficult times are coming... buy gold <NG>
