Anyone have a clarification of what the bolded comment means?

despite a $100 Billion + increase in assets due to market action

This must be referring to the increased Net Asset Values of the fund units that are still owned by investors. The roughly 15% increase in the major indexes in a 4-day period increased the value of funds that remain invested rather substantially, and probably encouraged many who are fed up with the market to sell into the rally.
