fund traders talk to market makers and specialists before the end of the day to make arangements for trades to take place at the end of day. on a day when a lot of redemptions are taking place, you can see the resulting sudden down movement a little before three .. same as during a bull market you can see the buys fireing off at that same time .. edit : BTW this impact is over about 3:25 or so .. another edit .. Thursdays and Fridays are when this hits strongest .. because of payroll information comming in ..
