| Actually, by saying they had a "fair idea", I meant to convey a notion of imperfection. I think, in fact, that a lot of helpful ideas circulate throughout the culture, but it does make a difference, in awareness of humanity, to have access to literature, the social sciences, philosophy, history, art, and even a broad knowledge of the scientific enterprise. These all help to supplement and organize experience,and to take one out of a parochial standpoint, and to expose one to the range and depth of human experience and reflection..... |
