Perhaps that is so. Yet "parochial" can reference any position. I have found that even street people are educated--it is simply a different education. Most "higher order" education is worthless in critical life situations. I remember being up a river on a feezing night where we were all suffering from exposure. The boat kept stalling because the engine transmission wasn't working. The native man in control of our boat repeatedly tied strings and parts off of pots and pans together in order to coax some movement on the river. He used nickles and dimes and sticks for wrenches...

He had no "access to literature, the social sciences, philosophy, history, (or) art"...but he got us back to a cabin, a warm wood stove, and some bannock and tea...
